Breakwater Beach

Located close to the town centre, Breakwater Beach is one of Brixham’s most popular and accessible shingle beaches. It gets its name from the nearby Brixham Breakwater, a half-mile-long pier that protects the inner harbour. This beach is perfect for families due to its gently shelving entry into the water and the fact that it is relatively sheltered. It is an excellent spot for paddleboarding and kayaking. Kids love searching for crabs in the rock pools at the water’s edge, and the adjacent breakwater provides a great walk to the lighthouse, offering spectacular views back over the bay. It is also a prime location to watch the local fishing fleet coming and going, and if you are lucky, you might spot seals or porpoises in the water. Facilities are excellent, with the Shoalstone Pool nearby and several cafes just a stone’s throw away on the promenade. Breakwater Beach is one of the cleanest beaches on the English Riviera, holding a prestigious Blue Flag award and a Combined Seaside Resort Award. Access to the beach is easy—you can drive directly to the front via the main road to Berry Head, or enjoy a level walk around the harbour side from the town centre. Disabled ramps provide access to both the promenade and the beach itself. When you need refreshments, the Breakwater Bistro is located right on the beach.
