Located at Fishcombe Road, this restored coastal defence battery was originally built in 1940 during World War II. The Brixham Battery Heritage Group was founded in 1999 by the late Ron Coleman, and it remains run by a dedicated team of volunteers who work to restore the site and provide on-site information to the general public. Visitors can explore the gun emplacements, bunkers, and other defensive structures that once played a crucial role in protecting the South Devon coastline from potential invasion.

The site offers a fascinating glimpse into Britain’s wartime history, with informative displays and knowledgeable volunteers often on hand to answer questions and share stories. The battery is situated within Battery Gardens, which also offers stunning views across Tor Bay. It is a short walk from both Fishcombe Cove and the South West Coast Path, making it easy to combine with a coastal walk or beach visit. Note that the site is only open seasonally from March through October, so plan your visit accordingly. Children will find the bunkers and old military equipment intriguing, making history come alive in a tangible way.
