Battery Gardens Brixham

Perched on the hillside above Fishcombe Cove, Battery Gardens offers arguably the most panoramic views in Torbay and is a fantastic location to watch the annual English Riviera Airshow. The gardens are a natural landscape of trees and grass, and in spring the woodland floor becomes a spectacular sea of bluebells and snowdrops. The site takes its name from the Brixham Battery, a World War II coastal defence battery built in 1940, remnants of which can still be explored today. The Brixham Battery Heritage Group, a team of dedicated volunteers, works to restore and preserve this important piece of wartime history, providing on-site information to the public. Children will find the old gun emplacements and bunkers fascinating, offering a tangible connection to history that textbooks cannot match. The gardens connect directly to Fishcombe Cove via a gentle path, so you can easily combine a historical exploration with a beach visit. The location is also a gateway to the South West Coast Path, allowing you to continue your walk towards Berry Head or back towards Brixham Harbour. Spring is arguably the most beautiful time to visit, when the bluebells are in full bloom, but the views over Torbay are spectacular in any season.
