Step aboard the Golden Hind Museum Ship, a full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous galleon.

You cannot miss the Golden Hind as it dominates the centre of Brixham Harbour. This is a full-sized, seaworthy replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous 16th-century galleon, in which he circumnavigated the globe. Stepping aboard is like stepping directly into a Tudor time warp. Visitors are free to explore all five decks, from the cramped crew quarters to the captain’s cabin. The attraction is highly interactive; audio guides bring the history to life, and kids love the included treasure hunts that keep them engaged. Unlike a static museum, you can feel the ship move gently with the tide, adding to the authenticity. It is a fantastic all-weather activity, as much of the experience is below deck. Costumed interpreters often populate the ship during school holidays, firing the cannons and telling tales of the high seas. It is a hands-on history lesson that beats any textbook.
